i need help with deleting my user account on my imac!?

i need to delete the original account on my imac. i have created a new account and put that account as an admin and the "my account" as a normal one. but i still cant delete the "my account", it is unlocked and it will only let me + an account not - an account. any help here

Are you logging on to your new Admin account when you try to delete the old account?
