yeah, it may slow it down some. every widget u have open probably uses abt. 5mb of ram, so just subtract that from your total amt. and u'll get a better idea. also, check the activity monitor to look at ram usage

as long as young dont have over 5 or so u'll be fine

not always true... if he has a powermac G5 with 8 gigs of ram... he can run as many as he wants and never have a problem, if he as g3 with only 512 of ram then 3 widgets running may slow down the computer...

Most of the time it will not matter how much RAM is consumed, because Dashboard doesn't run the whole time, while you use your computer. Dashboard shuts down the widgets, if you do use them for a specific period of time.

You'd be surprised, I've seen several who have.

Heck, I switched with a 17" Powerbook. Thats near the base price of the top powermac. The ram is only a few hundred $s difference.

A friend of mine recently switched...to a dual G5 2.7GHz, maxed out Ram (8GB), including the nVidia 6800 and, you won't believe it, 2 (yes, two!!) 30" Cinema displays.
That is an awesome setup, believe me!

It is his very first Mac. Well, he is from a very wealthy family, so he always has the best he can get.

My widgets are showing low-teens to mid-20's (mb) ram usage. The ones I use are:
Weather
Stickie
Conversion
Stock ticker
Phone book
dictionary

I use Dashboard once or twice a day, at most, but the memory usage seems high .

I've found that the longer widgets stay open, the more memory they use. It also seems to very depending on the total amount of ram a computer has, which doesn't make sense to me.

I don't like Konfabulator. It does use less ram, but if you want to make your own widgets, you have to know how to program. I like the simplicity of Tiger widgets, plus, along with the programming thing, I can easily modify Tiger widgets to my liking. And, I don't like how Konfabulator widgets are "always there."
