good free video converter for mac???

i need a FREE video converter for mac to convert .flv files into imovie compatible files.... any suggestions... ive tried a bunch but all failed

Quicktime will do it, but I suspect the Pro version only.

You may want to look into Miro Video Converter. I like it for those times that I need a quick and painless video conversion.

I guess:

a) your time is worthless ... you've probably wasted more than $20 or so trying to find a free solution.

b) these flv files can't be worth the effort if you're not even willing to pony up the cost of a couple of Starbucks to find a solution that actually works ...

I've been using Zamzar for years. Not a freeware application needing to be downloaded into your Mac but a online file conversion which has never let me down.

Handbrake, without a shadow of a doubt - it'll convert 720p flv files effortlessly into iPod/iPad compatible MP4/h.264 files.

I've downloaded countless YouTube clips I love and saved them to my iTunes library using Handbrake (use Download Helper ad-in on Firefox to do this - it might come to Safari shortly, but AFAIK only works on Firefox so far).
