You can't just use the yellow button or Command+M?

I don't have Tiger, but if you can't I would try a restart and then a permissions repair if the restart does nothing.

Did you try Command+M?

IT does look like something screwy, but the aforementioned fixes should help. At least they won't hurt.

Try repair permissions. After every software update, and about every 2 weeks: close all apps and log totally off. Log on, go in Finder, Applications. Utilities, Disk Utility. After the message -getting disk information- select volume (below the hard drive name -upper left corner). Just highlight it. Now look to the lower two things are there near the middle, verify permissions, repair permissions. Click repair permissions

relaunch finder

Those coming from the Windows world know that the first repair trick to use is a relaunch, be it just a program or the system...I know that most people that work exclusively on Macs don't think about this as a first try.

After all, even Mac OS X is just another OS...

And for those who don't know:
To relaunch finder hit Command+Option/Alt+Esc to bring up the force quit applications dialogue, select Finder and hit the 'relaunch' button.
