10.4 to 10.6 trouble

I read that it is possible to install 10.6 on 10.4 machines. I tried this and it updated fine on a macbook. But when I reboot, it gets stuck at the blue screen, you are able to move the mouse but it can't get much further. I can boot in safe mode. I then tried to put in a 10.5 boot disk but it says it "can't be installed" on this computer.

Anyone have any suggestions.

How did you install Snow Leopard? Did you erase the disk first, reformat, and then install or did you just install over Tiger?

Installed over tiger. should I revert back to 10.5 then go to 10.6? It does boot in safe mode which gives me some hope.

I's guessing "Chscag's" question is...what sort of install file or disk did you use to do the 10.6 install?

Installing over Tiger was the problem. You need to erase the disk and install Leopard or Snow Leopard clean. If you decide to install Leopard first, the Snow Leopard upgrade should work OK. Lots of work, but that's the right way to do it.
