Hi guys

I have a Macbook Pro running OS Tiger and am wanting to upgrade to Leopard.

Before I do I need to backup my files to my external hard disk. What is the best, most reliable way to do this?

I dont want to have to use mobileme because its expensive to sign up to. All I want to do is backup my computer to my external hard drive before i make the jump.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Either use drag and drop to copy your home folder over or get a back up app.

SuperDuper! is my preference, although it'll cost you to add the ability to do incremental backups. CarbonCopyCloner is free. With either one of these you can make a bootable backup from which you can boot your machine in case the internal drive fails for any reason.

Thanks for the swift reply...

I did try the command and drag to my hard drive but midway through a message came up saying some files require permission to be copied (or something along those lines) if I continued at that point would some things not be backed up?

My best guess - Probably. Have not run into that issue for awhile myself as I have been using SuperDuper! for a few years now. About the only things I ever have the need to move individually are audio and video files.
