ok so im looking to put xp onto my macbook pro, and was wondering what sort of limitations i should watch out for? like should i get 32 bit or 64 bit or doesnt it matter, and i think i remember seeing something about having to have service pack 2 if your installing xp (im not too familiar with windows)

also i read that you need to make sure you get a brand new copy due to technical issues, i was wondering if it would be "ok" on the tech side if i used a downloaded copy of windows, would i get technical issues then?

im running os x snow leopard 10.6.4

thanks in advance for any feedback :)

As in an illegal pirated copy? No help here.

Don't really see any reason not to go with Win 7 vs XP if you're needing to buy a copy. You can get Win7 home in the oem version for $100 at newegg.

well i wanted xp because ive been told by my freinds theres fewer bugs with it and i want it just for gaming, it takes up less processing power than 7 apparently

i also happen to be broke due to being a student lol, but i will try to find a cheap copy somewhere then
so if i go with xp is it better to go with 32 bit? and is there a certain service pack that i need?

Even then, Windows XP will only be playing the games in DX9. Windows 7 Games will be using DX 10 and 11 so the games are going to have so much more visual appeal than DX9 and with the hardware that apple is pumping out now, even the 1st Gen MBP would probably run Win 7 just as smooth as XP would, most games now require a minimum of Windows Vista just to install.

I agree with halo. While XP is still the most popular version of Windows, it's beginning to show its age. And MS quite frankly is not going to boost it any by allowing its newer Direct X to be installed. And in case you haven't heard, the new IE 9 is Vista - Windows 7 only. Will not install on XP.

Buy Windows 7 Home Premium at NewEgg or Amazon. That's your best value.

Plus, Windows 7 is actually pretty efficient - doesn't require nearly as much memory as Vista did. As a result, I would go with it if you have a choice. I run it fine on my older macbook using only 1 GB of memory in a virtual machine.
