Can I put any SSD in my MackBook?

Hello all!

I just got myslef my first mac, a MA701LL/A.
It still has the original 120gb 5400rpm drive in it. I want to swap It out for a ssd.

However, being that my MB is a bit of an older model, is there a specific type of
ssd I can get that will work in my MB?

What ssd on newegg (or elsewhere) would you get for my MB that is 80gb-128gb
in size with about $170-$240 or so?

It just needs to be a 2.5" SATA SSD (which describes almost all SSDs on the market today). So, choose your poison - just be sure to read reviews as SSDs can vary GREATLY in performance. If it's cheap, there's usually a reason why.

2.5" SATA or SATA 2 is what you are looking for. newegg has decent stuff, but you will have to do your own gigabyte/dollars judgment call. Samsung, Kingston, OCZ and of course Intel are all decent brands. Many consider the current Intel X25 drives to be the "gold standard". I have a Super Talent (Samsung) Ultradrive GX 128GB that has been working excellently for two years now without any special care or feeding. Unless you are completely anal, don't get too hung up on TRIM and that sort of thing unless you are serving up an Oracle 11g database with multiple transactions per second or something wild.

Very true. Drives that write small 4K files quickly are MUCH quicker than the ones which tout how fast they can transfer 2GB files and the like.

Yeah I was thinking about the intel 80gb x25-m, or one of the kingston v series 128gb's.
Also, ocz, corsair, and crucial have some decent 120gb-128gb's with some good reviews...

The intel is the one with the perfect ratings... But is costs the most per gb.
