Hi, I just got a magic trackpad and I have it hooked up to my computer, but I can't open up the preferences. I have OS X 10.6.4 and I can find "Trackpad" in my search bar, but when I click on it, it says "You can't open the 'Trackpad' preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time". And then under that it says I may need to attach a device to my computer. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I am getting really frustrated.

I had to pair it to my Mac Mini first. It showed up as a Bluetooth Mouse. After that, I ran Software Update which then showed the needed Magic Tackpad software.

Alternatively, you can download it here:

Mine works fine. I only really use it as a remote for my Mac Mini which is my media server and connected to my TV. It works better for running DVD's and other video than:
-Screen sharing via my MBP
-My bluetooth Magic Mouse which I either need to lean way over the coffee table to use, or try to track around on the couch
I haven't had any need to try it for anything else, and it works well - especially on media players like boxee and XBMC.
