Hi, i've had my emac for a year or two, after buying it second-hand. And i want to upgrade my operating system.

although i've had it for ages, i'm quite, 'uneducated' when it comes to macs.

here is the current specifications:

Machine Name: eMac
Machine Model: PowerMac6,4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1
Serial Number: YM5470CMT8P

I'm currently running OS X 10.4.11
i want to upgrade to leopard or snow leopard.

is there any way i can upgrade it for free, and how do i do it?

Cheers,
Thomas :p

You can upgrade your eMac to OS 10.5...but it is not free.

Leopard is as far as you can go because it's PPC, and Snow Leopard requires Intel.

And expect Leopard discs to set you back around the $100 mark. Make sure you buy black coloured full retail install discs and do not buy cheaper system discs which are silver/grey and abound on auction sites.

Not if you know what you're doing.

P.S. My previous post answered the first part of a compound question. I hate compound questions! And I fell for it! The second part presumed an answer to the first part, and the wrong answer at that! I'll be more carefuller next time. ;)
