Mac Book Pro Constantly on mute!? Help Please!

What would cause a Macbook Pro to be constantly stuck on mute? It has the "prohibited" sign when you volume up and down, but regardless of +/- volume it shows the volume all the way up... Help please

No. No red light shining there. Where you plug you headphones in right? No red light there.

I had the same problem. check the system profiler, and look for your audio driver (if its an intel mac), or soundcard. mine wasnt appearing, when i took it in, they replaced my logic board and motherboard. i would really get that checked out just incase it causes any other problems
