Hi there guys

Im 100% im not the only one with this problem but I can't find a solution.

I have the latest imac and work as a freelance filmmaker. I use the 3-CCD PROHD CAMCORDER w/16:1 FUJINON LENS
GY-HD100U
. The way it tells me to upload is by plugging a firewire with a DV output into an Imac with a firewire 400 input. How do i get round this problem? Is there any kind of adaptor out there? Or maybe a cable with a DV end and a USB end.....

Thank you in advance guys

Kyle

Your new iMac has a FW800 port and 4 USB ports. Since there is no way to adapt FW400 to FW800 you'll have to use USB instead if possible. Does your Cam Corder instructions show an alternate USB output?

Take a look at this cable. It is also available on the Amazon site. Unless I am wrong about the connection on the camcorder it should fit. I haven't needed to use this type of cable but at that price it might be worth a try.

Respectfully, may I query that information? I understood that FW800 is indeed backwards compatible (cf. USB2<->USB1), so I went searching;
FireWire 800 and FireWire 400
Don't worry: FireWire is FireWire | Accessories | MacUser | Macworld

The OP should be able to connect his camcorder to his iMac with an 800/400 cable, links thereto are provided in the above articles.

You're right - but I was referring to speed. (I know, I should have said so.) The cable that Slydude linked to should work unless the OP prefers to use USB (if available).

I don't think thats the issue, I think it's the physical connector that FW 800 uses that would plug into the camera is different than that the 400 would use. I could be wrong though...

Now that I have found the manual for that camera I think I have a better idea what connector cable is needed. If the firewire connection on the camera uses a very small connector then the cable I linked to in the previous post should work.

Judging from the manual it looks like the camera's firewire connection is the same size as a "regular" firewire 400 cable then try one of these! or this Belkin cable should work. I have used the Belkin cable and it is really solid. I am betting that either of these will be the cable you need.
