I noticed more and more fans are sharing music at 24/192.

How do I play 24/192 on the Mac? Do I need to use a DAC?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

No, iTunes can handle 24/192 no problem. The issue would be if you were playing it via the audio line output, as that can only output 96khz, not that you could really tell unless you hook up to some serious equipment.

Hello Kevriano

Thanks for your reply. And if I were to play the tracks through external speakers and amp? What software/hardware do I need?

Hello Kevriano

I'm using OS 10.5.6.

As far as I can tell from the mac's audio MIDI setup, the mac's internal speakers can go up to 96 khz. It doesn't support 192 khz.

Sorry for the late replies, didn't spot your last posts.
Yes well as I hinted the line out will only support 96KHz, so that would be what you get if you use that method to export to an amp for example.
You would need to have a DAC to upsample, or use something like an Edirol UA1-EX ad an optical out connected to it to get full 192.
The point is that you can play the files no issue, but not necessarily output them at the right bitrate without additional equipment.
