Apple Battery Charger - Handles other brand batteries?

Whats the word on these new chargers? I know they come with some decent batts but i also already have 8 or so existing rechargeable batts, some of them are eneloop-style

Also, how smart is this charger? Does it properly fully charge batteries or is it on a timer? O:)
