hey guys, in urgent need of some help here,

i have had this problem as long as i can remember having macs and wirelessly streaming them, my setup is an imac downstairs and my macbook pro in my bedroom and i have airport extreme to stream music and movies from my itunes library on my imac to my macbook, i also have apple tv for another room, ive just downloaded itunes 10 aswell but that hasn't changed anything. the problem is when i watch a movie on my macbook and i want to skip to a certain scene or i just want to skip the boring parts it won't let me, it just stalls the movie or skips only a couple of seconds and its really annoying, it doesn't do it on my imac so its really strange. can someone help? thanks, sam

Unless the video file is specifically encoded for streaming, you are going to have this problem. What's happening is that the movie is buffering behind what you are actually watching. To avoid the issue, start streaming the movie, then pause, and go make a cup of coffee (ie allow the streaming to continue for a while before you start watching).

PS. If a movie has boring parts, it's not a good movie you need to spend time with (or its a porno!). :)

I'm not sure how you have things set up ... but here is my configuration... I have a (YIKES!!! he's going to say the dreaded W word) Windows machine set up in the basement to harbor all of our movie library this one is hard wired to the router ... I don't like swapping DVD's so I make a back up (of my movies) encoded with Xvid.

Mac Mini in the bedroom one of the older ones Intel (don't even think its a Core 2 Duo) running Front Row it is connected to the router via wireless..

There is a bit of a lag when first starting the movie but after that I can fast forward and rewind at free will..

And in the Living room have a DV6000 setup with Media Center hooked up to the HD via component (had to get the dock 2nd hand for component) .. This one is actually a little more glitchy but still can fast forward and rewind..

So what are you using? The media should act as if its local if you have the connections right... for the Mac I just use an alias in my movies folder to connect.

BTW Don’t have any problems watching on my Mac Book Pro either .. the only one I do have a problem with is the Homework machine in the front room.. waiting for the antenna to ship .. PowerMac Dual G5 has wifi but no antenna works but have to keep the side off to get any signal at all… (clear cover still is on there so will not over heat.)
