What is the main difference between the two computers?

Mac mini server and Mac mini

Is it's the OSX 10.6 server software that is expensive which make the computer price starts at $999? Can I install OS X 10.6 server on a mac mini?

If you're not going to use the MM as a server, get the "regular" version. If you're going to use it a server and nothing else, it might be worth considering it. That's the simple answer.

The mini server is tempting when compared to the base model. It comes with faster storage – 680 GB more of it; more memory; and a faster processor. It's missing the DVD burner and iLife apps. It also comes with the server OS, which I understand doesn't sleep properly compared to the client OS. I don't understand why Apple doesn't offer the same model with the client OS for the same price, for those of use who want more internal storage. I modified my 2009 mini for two internal SATA hard drives.
