I just recently purchased a MacBook and have been trying to connect it to my old PC's Netgear WPN824v2 router. I've connected to the network via my WEP password. And on the Network preferences page it says that my Airport is connected to this network. However, when I try to open an internet page it says that there is no internet connection. Please help! I have no idea what to do in order to properly connect to the internet.

If you look at the Network pref pane in System Preferences, does it say that you have a self-assigned IP? If so, try restarting the router to see if that resets the DHCP server in your router.

Previously it said it had no IP address, so I entered it manually from the and entered the IP address under LAN Port in my NETGEAR settings. Was that wrong? It said DHCP ON though as well.

WEP can be problematic with some systems plus it's so easily hacked and very insecure.

Also are you selecting the right setting in OSX? There is ASCII, HEX and 128 Bit and others.

If I were you I would try WPA or WPA2.

I used the WEP password before and it connected to my network. But the internet still didn't work.

How do I change that setting? Should I be doing that on my MAC or my RouterLogin website?

You change the security settings on the router configuration page. If you open the reference guide here to page 4-12 (page 48 in Preview), it will show you how to configure WPA.

What did you end up doing to make it work?
