Toast 10, DVD video + subtitles

I have a dvd movie as an *.avi file. I tried burning it with Toast as a DVD video. The subtitles I have for the movie are an *.srt file. Each time I try to add it, it says it's an unsupported file. Is there a way to burn both the movie and the subtitles?
I want to play the disc on a DVD player, I have already burned it as a data dvd but the dvd player can't read it.

Use Handbrake to create a file with the subtitles included, it allows you to do this in advanced options, and then burn that file.
