Help with Qucktime

I have a movie in .avi format and when I try to play it through Quicktime, it is like 5 seconds worth of bright green and that's it. No sound. But the file is like 665 mb. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

See if Perian plays that file, it extends the codec support for Quicktime
