IOLog, DbgPrint output

Hey,
I have been trying to do some IOKit development. I am verrrry new to mac. I just wanted to know how to view the output from IOLog or DbgPrint. The documentation says its in the /var/log/syslog.log, i did see any log there. I also tried dmesg and setting the debug.kext and debug.IOLog sys variables to 0xfff but still could not get any log. Can someone point me to the right direction?

If you have set the debug level correctly, messages will be displayed in /var/log/kernel.log
