ipod troubles

I accidentally clicked "Clean up selection" on the icon for my 160 gb ipod classic and it disappeared from my desktop of my mac. Also when i look in the mac hard drive it is not listed under devices, like it usually is. How do i get it to reappear on my desktop and device list?

When ever i plug it in, it will show up for a few seconds but will disappear as soon as itunes launches

Finder - Preferences

General tab and Sidebar tab

Place a check mark next to: CDs, DVDs and iPods

If it's already checked, uncheck it, close preferences, open it back up and recheck it.
