iphone updates not able to resume?

13.3" Macbook Pro 2.26, 4GB Ram, 160GB HD, WD 2TB, 24" ACD. iPad 64GB 3G. iPhone 4 32GB Unlocked.
Why doesn't iTunes allow you to resume updates for the iPhone like other downloads? I have a very spotty internet connection and it gets like 90% complete and restarts. Is there any other alternative other than iTunes to download these?

Dont know if this will help, but there are updates HERE and take particular attention to the Red Boxed areas .......

I just tried one and it downloads into my Download window/folder

There is one for the iP4, i see you have one in your Sig :)
