Here is what I would like to do with my iMac and Mac Book Pro:

I want the screen of the iMac to be mirrored exactly to the Book.

What cable/s would I need for this and what the settings?

Also, can I have more than one mouse at a time on the iMac?

Thanks!

yes you can ScreenRecycler

and you can have as many mice as you have inputs, eg a usb mouse, infared optical mouse and bluetooth mouse all at the same time

I would rather not have to run software. Isn't there a simpler solution like a cable and some settings in the preferences box?

No simple solution. Your MBP does not have a video input port, only video out. Same with the iMac unless you own a newer 27" iMac which does have a video input port.
