New refurbished iphone: no service

A friend of mine just recently purchased a refurbished iphone online from AT&T. He synched the iphone and apparently followed all necessary steps to properly set up the phone, but is not getting service. In the left hand corner of the phone it says "no service", and no calls will go through.

I do not not have an iphone and therefor am of no help, but maybe someone on here can help him out. Any ideas?

Call AT&T would be my best suggestion.

more than likely your friend missed a step in the activation process.

when recently upgraded my wifes original iphone for a 3Gs, i had the same problem, then I read the instructions again and called the 888 number in the instructions to activate the phone, with in a few minutes it was up and working.
