I own a macbook pro unibody(late 2008). a few months the laptop feel off my night stand. it looked as if the hinge was broken(left side). the laptop was working fine. i found the hinge on ebay but never replaced it because it was working fine. then about two weeks ago the screen stopped working. i took it to a mac specialist for repair(no applecare). he told me that it didn't need the hinge and that the screen had disattached from hinge and it needed two screws and some glue. when i pick it up, they tell me that there are red blotched on screen because the inverter cable had partially ripped from logic board. i would need a new logic board that cost about $700. i just want to sell it and get a new one. where is a good place to sell? thanks.

I have first generation macbook pro unibody 15"(late 2008). about 2 months ago i dropped laptop and the cover would no longer line up correctly when i shut the laptop closed. the laptop worked fine. i was told by someone that i needed a new hinge(left). i found it on ebay. i waited 2 months to fix because everything was still working. then last week the screen stopped working. i took it to mac specialist(no applecare) who stated that i didn't need the hinge and that the lcd had disatatched from cover. he bonded it together and replaced 2 screws on the hinge. also stated that inverter cable ran along the left hinge causing screen not to operate. i got the laptop back a day later BUT i was seeing red vertical lines. mostly during video play or black screen. everything else worked fine. i can not use this laptop because i am a video dj and need clear picture. i called the specialist back who stated that inverter cable was barley hanging on and that it could not be repaired unless i bought a new logic board. is this true? the logic boards that i saw on ebay, none of them had inverter cables attached. i'm confused and don't want to spend more money if it's not repairable. any advice would be appreciated. thank you in advance.

@serato:

Please do not cross post. You have already posted basically this same information back in April and now again twice. Always post back to the same thread.

do you know if they take damaged macs?

Yes they will take damaged Mac's...but you won't get any money for it...in fact you have to pay $30 for a shipping label.

The Mac has to have some resale value...because the company that does this for Apple turns the computers over & resells them.

Google around for wholesale parts buyers. Better yet, sell it on you site of choice and be specific (with photos) in regards to the damage. Volunteer to answer any questions and have links available to a potential buyer on where to get repairs performed - full disclosure in other words. If you've done your part, a hobbyist or tinkerer might be waiting out there for their next project laptop, and you will recoup some money. Good luck!

I'd try eBay. I know a lot of people who bought damaged goods from there before.

Good luck.
