    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm trying to split a video into three segments for YouTube upload. However, there's no timecode so I can't tell how long each clip is or where I am timewise in the project. This is stupid!! How do I get around this?

Re: iMovie 09no timecode displayed

I don't know if this will help or not, but here is how I do it. I move the slider that condenses the number of frames that you can see to a number of lines as closely as possible to be divisible by the number of videos I want to end up with. then I guestimate where I need to break into segments. It usually gets me close enough.

I don't have iMovie '09 anymore so I don't know if this has only happened since the upgrade to iMovie '11, but iMovie '11 most definitely DOES have a timeline when I look at an edited movie in "single row" view. Both the individual clips' length (in seconds) and the total length (along the bottom of the display) appear.

So upgrade to iMovie '11 if you're not seeing that.
