Looking for Advice on Hard Drive Upgrade

Hey guys,

I have a 6-year-old 1.33 GHz PowerBook G4 with two gig's of RAM. I'm looking to upgrade the hard drive which is only around 60 gigs.

In my research it seems that Western Digital is one of the more reliable brands as far as HD's go. The issue is I don't know how big I can go without completely lagging down my fairly fast computer. Any advice? I was looking at this one.

The size of that drive you linked to is OK, should be no problem for your Powerbook G4, however, looking up the specs for your machine, I noticed that it can only take ATA. That drive you linked to is SATA and won't work or even connect in your machine.

ATA drives are getting harder to find and they tend to be more expensive than SATA. Go thru NewEgg again until you find their stock of ATA drives. You might also try Tiger Direct, and Other World Computing.

Thanks chscag! I wish I knew more about this stuff. All I know is my drive is tiny, my needs have grown as far as drive space goes, and I can't afford a new mac at this point. I have a coworker who's going to be doing the install for me.

Yea, the drive you posted is Sata and wont work on your laptop. You need a ATA drive.

Here is all the ATA/IDE drives that MacSales (Other World Computing) has, they have a 320GB that should work.
