So it's true the ATI gpu's are being rebranded to be AMD ones now. I think it's the beginning of the end for the ATI (now AMD) gpus. They used to be very good and have a nice reputation. And now I just don't know what to think.

What? No more ATi? But I like ATi!! I wonder if apple is going to stick with AMD's lineup, or just switch completely to Nvidia?

As for the processor's power to gain better graphics results, my friend just bought a core i7 MBP, and the graphics are amazing for it. If integrated graphics are helped this much by the i5's and i7's, Apple should really make them "Pro's" and switch to the fastest and most powerful i5's and i7's you can get!

ATI was bought out long ago by AMD so that shouldn't surprise anyone. As far as the branding of the GPU is concerned, that's all it is. The GPU chipsets will have the same quality only now with a different name.

What will be interesting though is if this causes confusion when downloading drivers for the newly branded chipsets. Hopefully AMD will have sense enough to keep the old and new separate.

This is good news but Intel had no other choice other than to improve their performance since they no longer allow third party integrated chips. This will probably mean that we will see i3 Intel chips on the 13" MBP instead of staying with C2D which allowed third party graphics chips.

As already mentioned it seems they are just changing the name since AMD has owned ATi for awhile now. Apparently AMD just want the general public to know they own ATi. Based on the comments above it does seems that people didn't know AMD owned ATi.

When I built PCs with my Dad- all he used were ATi cards, and Intel processors. It looks like that's changing.

That's only an issue for integrated cards. You can still use any dedicated graphics card you want with Intel chips unless what you are trying to say is that there is less of a need for dedicated graphics cards with this new integrated performance claim from Intel.
