Touch Screen imac patent
The Mother Lode: Welcome to the iMac Touch - Patently Apple

A lot of very nice ideas there. I intend to read the entire article.
And from a quick skim of the article I really like the ideas they have there. I'd buy tis new imac if it was to be put into production.

Some random thoughts about the article from me. . . .

Hmmm the imac in slant mode could almost be used like an oversized ipad on your lap. That brings in a lot of possibilities. I would not need to get separate ipad not home use then. Cause I could move the imac around the home as I wish. Sure it's easy enough to move now. But for a long session in slant/iOS mode I'd only need to take the computer with me downstairs and the keyboard and mouse can stay up stairs. ANd I just plug in the imac downstairs and I'm ready to go. This idea I like a lot.

I wonder how robust the adjustable stand will be. It'd have to be able to take a lot of movement, hold the weight of the computer in either mode (slant and normal) and have a lock. So I can lock it in slant or normal mode when I want to. I think getting the stand right will be one of the keys to getting this whole touch screen imac to work.

Touch sensors on the side of the imac. Hmmmm I dunno. I just don't touch the case of my imac that much. I just dunno how the imac with all it's parts will be in that heavy touch environment. They'd really have to make sure the case is way more durable with all the touch it'll get. Maybe this is what the liquid metal (unbreakable case) patents from Apple were for.

The last part of the patent says yeah the macbook can become touchscreen too.

So people QQing that a touchscreen desktop computer is holding your hands in the air for hours on end - no need to worry, Apple already had that in mind and this patent seems to fix that issue.

I think Apple is getting it's hardware slowly ready for a major transition to touch on the imac/macbook front. All the signs are there. The only question is when.
