I have an external harddrive that has a lot of media on it. I access the media from it (movies, etc.) often, and am curious whether or not this is bad for the harddrive? Would it be better to copy/paste material I want to watch onto my desktop and watch it from there, then delete it after, rather than watching it from the harddrive?

Internal or external, it doesn't really make a difference where the movie is located as there is always a HD being used.

Yes, but I'd much rather my warranty-covered Mac harddrive gets worn down than the 1.5TB one I have all my info backed up on.

That being said, is it better to copy/paste to the Mac hd and access from there?
