How can I keep particular websites off of my Top Sites list? I know I can delete history, etc. but I don't want to do that, though I do want certain sites not to appear in my cookies/history/top sites. Does anyone know how this is doable?
If you only want to get rid of some Top Sites and keep others try this. Open a Safari window and make sure you can see the Top Sites window then do the following:
1. Click the "Edit" button in the lower left portion of the window (near the bottom of the page).
2. Each page now has an "X" or thumbtack. Click the X to get rid of a page or the thumbtack to keep it in the list.
3. When you are finished click the "Done" button in the lower left.
Bonus Hint: When you are looking at the Top Sites page some pages have blue stars by them. These stars indicate that there is new content on that site.
I don't spend much time with Top Sites either. I load several sites via an Automator workflow. Don't remember where I learned the tip but I included it in a previous MACOSG Podcast.
I monitor a number of websites administratively as well as checking in on forums like this one, so I am a HUGE fan of TopSites. It's like a visual Top 16 bookmarks, with visual cues to let me know when they've been updated.
It's a giant productivity booster for me. All 16 of my slots are pinned.
I've completely disabled Top Sites, and prevented the collection of files it requires to show those recently visited pages. I think it's great, as long as I don't see it!
