I've been using an APC ES 750 UPS with my Mac; I had it when I was using a PC and I've continued to use it with the Mac. I found out today that none of the APC UPS models work with Snow Leopard, I found this out while speaking with an APC tech support person, who also said there isn't an estimated date as to when this will be fixed.

I haven't gotten any error messages but I feel as if I've been lulled into a sense of false security as I was told that the APC UPS hasn't been protecting the Mac as I had thought.

Does anyone use a UPS with their Mac that actually works? I need it only for surge protection and for 10 to 15 minutes shutdown time when the power goes out.

I have an iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo w/Snow Leopard. I don't have many peripherals: a small laser printer (which I know shouldn't be plugged into the UPS), an Apple Airport Express, an external hard drive for backups, and a FiOS modem.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a Cyber-Power UPS on the iMac that works fine. I have the one with the USB port and when plugged in I get the extra UPS control panel in the Power settings to set shut down times, etc.

You can probably use your UPS anyway. See the following MacWorld 911 tip.

Regards.

That will work. All the APC's I have used with OSX, I just used OSX's settings in Energy Saver and never bothered with the Power Chute Software.

Although Power Chute would have come in handy once when the Battery was dying to silence that annoying high pitched tone my one APC was making! :D

I replaced that APC with a CyberPower. It said OSX on the box and works great.
