• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I was wondering if anyone has any experiance with this? isit any good (I'm assuming because its so old itll be basic) - I'm looking forward to playing around with it :)

Plenty of people used iMovie 05 when it was out. I'm not sure of the performance on that machine, but would expect it would be fine for editing standard definition video.

The best way to edit is to do your cuts first and add any effects later because that version renders the effects as you apply them. That is time consuming.

You didn't mention the speed of the machine. Check lowendmac.com for model information. If it is really slow, pass on the deal. The 'iBook G4' covers many speed models as I recall.

For editing standard definition you should be fine given what I said above. I would expect that Hi-Def would be problematic. It looks like that version of iMovie can edit Hi-Def.

The 40GB drive is small. One hour of standard definition miniDV tape takes up about 13GB of disk space.
