Hey y'all,

I'm the proud owner of a 17" Powerbook G4. Unfortunately it is quite literally falling apart and I need to pick up a new laptop.

I have a friend who just bought a brand new desktop and has a MacBook just laying around. We were talking about maybe selling it to me for a fair price, but then we realized that we don't actually know what a fair price would be. :p

Although I don't have the exact specs, I believe it's the first MacBook with an Intel processor (or whatever they're called), and is the smallest screen size (12 or 13"?). I seem to remember the hard drive being relatively small, perhaps around 80 GB.

It has some use, but is still in excellent condition. I'd buy a new one but I'm starting grad school and desperately need to conserve money. Any broad suggestions?

First thing would be to find out what the exact specs are of this Macbook you're interested in...then go to this website to get an approximate value:
