iPhone 3g Telus Issue

Hey Guys i need some help!

I have an iphone 3G got it for free from a friend after he upgraded, but it was originally with rogers, he had had it jailbroken and unlocked. SO with telus i got a sim and set it all up but the top left bar only says no service i dont know how to fix it? Any suggestions :S i really hope i can get this working asap im with out a phone now.

Is the iPhone 3G your friend gave you compatible with the service provided by Telus? The iPhone operates using GSM and is compatible with certain transmitting frequencies only.
