need an opinion please

my friend who i do trust is offering to sell his (early)2008 macbook pro.
Specs:
Intel Duo Core 2.4Ghz
4GB DDR2 ram
Video card, GeForce 8600M GT 256mb GDDR3
15.4" 1440x900 display
200GB Harddrive (can upgrade it for ya to a 600gb one for the part cost, $90)
Windows 7 and OS X
extra battery
he is selling it for 800$.
is this a good deal?

There is a website. The name escapes me, but google " price my Mac " and it should come up. Just enter the specs and it'll give a value.

That's probably a very fair price. Make sure it works and you get the discs for both Win 7 and OS X.

That machine was $2k new.

thanks for the help! yeah i am new to the whole mac thing but im going into university so i need a laptop. and he's a good friend so i do trust him. is there much difference between the 2008 and now

Well, it'd be 2 years newer. And we have quad core chips now instead of 2 cores. Oh yeah, it'd also be another $1200 for the top 15" MBP in today's line-up.

I'd take him up on the hard drive upgrade if you've never done it yourself.
