Hi. I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.4) on a macbook with an external monitor: a 22inch LG. The monitor prefers a 1680x1050 resolution, but System Preferences doesn't list that resolution. The best looking resolution I could find is 1400x1050, but it's far from ideal.

1600x1024 looks absolutely terrible (pixelated, etc) and the higher resolutions won't display on my monitor (I get an "out of range" error with some frequencies displayed).

Does anyone know how I can get an appropriate resolution for this monitor?

Just to clarify: the monitor prefers a 1680x1050 res.

I mistyped in the title of the thread.

If I choose mirror displays, 1680x1050 shows up on the list, but the monitor goes black if I choose it. Below the list, it says "1200x800 maximum" or something. I have a 13'' macbook.

How are you attaching the LG monitor to your MacBook? Using VGA? If you are, switch to DVI. That will require a different adapter but DVI should yield the native resolution for the LG without it blacking out. (1680 x 1050)

Regards.
