I have an aluminum 13 in. Macbook Pro and it has scratches all over it. What is the best way to clean it and remove these scratches?

It depends on what you mean by "scratches". If this is actually scratches in the aluminum...these will not be easy to remove...if removing them is even possible. Scratches in the aluminum housing of Macintosh laptops is very very common...and you either have to prevent scratches by using a protective sleeve or hard shell case, or when it does get scratched...you just have to live with it.

I don't think they are that deep. I think they're just surface scratches. Can I get them out with a household cleaner?

In a area where no one will notice i would try Brasso with some good elbow grease. Or some buffing compound for cars and then polish it. Just experiment.

If the metal is scratched...household cleaner is not going to get rid of them. Household cleaner gets rid of dirt & grim...not scratches.

If the scratches are not that deep, then perhaps cleaning it might do the trick. I use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean the outside of the Macbook as well as the keyboard, but watch out... make sure it isn't too wet.

Both of these are creative ideas...but both may do more harm than good. Brasso is abrasive...and although it might get rid of light scratches...the abrasiveness of Brasso will cause damage to the aluminum finish in the area that it is used.

Buffing compound for cars will do the same thing. Where its used will cause a change in the laptops finish (just like Brasso)...and you'll be left with an "odd" looking area on the laptop where it is used. By "odd" I mean that the laptops surface will be more shiny, less shiny, or not have the "natural" matte aluminum finish that it originally had.

When it comes to scratches on the aluminum Apple laptops...you either have to prevent them from occurring in the first place...or live with them once you have them. Trying to remove the scratches (in most cases) will do more harm than good.
