speaker problems

Has anyone ever had the left side speaker on their ibook just to stop working ? always another problems im having is when I plug in headphones the sound still comes out of the speakers? what gives??? im gonna reinstall osx and see if that fixes it, or is this not going to work?

also the build in mic doest work... and all this stuff use to work fine.
