• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Okay I have a lot of mp4 files on iMac. The problem I have tho is that the videos are 1280x720 so on my wide screen monitor running at 1920x1200 so when I run the videos full screen there is a small black bar at the top and bottom. I want to remove it, but I don't know how? Who can recommend a tool for me?

Hi,

I am not sure why you'd want to do this - if you "remove" those bars, you'll end up loosing some on the right and left edge. This happens because your video is 1280x720 (16:9 - which is the same for 1920x1080 - ie: 1080i/p) and your screen is 1920x1200 (16:10)

There is an option in QuicktimeX called panoramic mode that should (from what I've read) remove that (it's under the views option) - on my system it's grayed out tho and I don't know why - you should check to see if the option is available to use on your player as that should expand the video to remove the black bars.
