What type of a cable do i use to connect my macbook and mac pro for this screen sharing to work? will a usb cable work?

ScreenRecycler relies on a network connection among the machines involved. If I remember correctly I used a wireless connection though that was a bit slow. I'd suggest a wired connection if you can swing it. I am not sure but I think networking via Firewire is also supported if the machines have Firewire.
