How to Config Desktop to not truncate Icon Text

I am wanting to configure my desktop so that icons/aliases display the full name instead of truncating it..

ie: An alias called MyFile.txt appears as "M...xt"

I've toyed around with changing icon sizes, grid spacing and nothing seems to have an impact on this...
