Custom icons not working?

Forgive me if this is in the wrong spot but it seemed like the most appropriate spot for this.

I am trying to put custom icons on for my hard drives but osx seems to not like them attached is the screen-shot of my problem and the icons im trying to use are right next to it. am i using a wrong format possibly?

Wrong format? Yes and no. ICNS files are system icon files, and they can't be pasted (the normal way). So you have to open them in Preview first, select it (cmd-A) copy (cmd C). And then paste it the normal way.

PS You can do this trick with any image file, you want to use as an icon.
