Keyboard and Mousepad not responding

This is my first Apple notebook. So I will apologize upfront if I am in the wrong forum or the question seems novice. The keyboard and the mouse pad on my Mac Book is not responding. I am on the login screen. I am unable to reboot. Any advice.

Try re-booting.

Press and hold the power button until it turns off.

Thank you so much, that worked. However I was holding the power button down before, it didn't seem to work. Maybe I did not hold it long enough. Thanks again.
