trying to purchase movie from apple tv

I am trying to purchase a movie directly from the apple tv, however it says I must verify the purchase on iTunes, what does this mean as noting happens on iTunes,

You must have an ITunes account to purchase movies & songs usually linked to a bank account or credit card..

It may also mean they want to log on and validate your credit card in your iTunes profile, if you have one. My iPhone will do this every once in a while.
