Program hang on game launch

This one has been confusing me. Everytime I try and launch a game, be it postal 2, dungeon siege, or even a rom for Snes9x, the game hangs as it starts up, never bringing up so much as a logo, and I have to force quit the thing. It doesn't matter if the game is full screen or no. The only game I seem to be able to play right now is puyo puyo fever, which only increases my confusion. Any suggestions? Oh yea, I've restarted my computer (I'm on a powerbook g4 with the latest osx 10.3 updates and 768MB RAM) and I've tried running one of the problem programs while nothing else was running, still no dice.
