Is there a way to get faster internet speeds by overriding others on the network?

Hey I was wondering if there is a program that would let me use the maximum download speeds for playing a game or browsing the web, because if someone is downloading something on the network it slows my internet down.

It's normally like this:
My internet speed = bandwidth speed - their download speed

But I want it like this:
Their download speed = bandwidth speed - My bandwidth speed

Is this possible?

If it is your network - many routers have QOS settings that can prioritize network traffic - giving priority to traffic on certain ports - as well as setting lower priority to other ports.

Ivan is technically correct, but as a practical matter the answer is no.

Turn off your downloading programs when you need to access your full bandwidth.
