I've been successfully using an external monitor for my 09 macbook pro at my desk running at 1920x1080 for a while and it's been great. Yesterday I switched to a different monitor to free up some desk space (bigger, but on an arm); the problem is it doesn't recognize that I've changed monitors and it wants to run at the old native resolution (1920x1080) instead of the new one (1920x1200).

Part of the issue may be that I'm also using a KVM switch:
BELKIN Flip F1DG102W Wireless 2 Port USB KVM w/Audio

If I remove the KVM it sees the monitor, problem solved. If I put the switch back in the mix - it's back to the old monitor and resolution. Does anyone have any idea how I can work around this and keep the KVM? Is there a way to manually set the monitor you are using? Thanks ;)
