My setup: 17in SD iMac G5, 1GB RAM & 12in iBook, 1.5GB RAM (Both computers standard config.)
I have my buddies iPod that he just bought and i need to format it for windows. I pluged it in and it started its thing but it says that it is formated as Mac OS Extended (journaled), and if i remeber right windows can't do anything with that. So, How do i get it formated to the right way? i.e. FAT 32 (i think)

Thanks

yeah, i know. I told him the same thing and when he was getting the iPod mini he was so close to buying a mac mini. I was so close to getting him to buy one then and there... but i think i put it in his mind so all i can do is wait and see if he gets one.

Thanks

iBook G3 - You'll be missed.
the windows machine should see it once you plug it in , it should tell you that it cannot be used or reconized with that file system and ask you to format it.

Yeah i realize that but what i am trying to do is get the music from my computer which is a mac to his which is windows. He had a problem about a week ago with his computer so i used my ipod to get all the music off his computer. Now that he has his wonblows machine back (and wiped clean) he wants the music back on his computer.

So what i need to do is get the music onto the iPod for him and then get it of so that he can have it back on his computer!!

Is there an easy way to do this??

Thanks

Put the music on a DVD/CD ROM(s)?

Failing that do you know anyone with an external HD that both machines could use?

Unfortunantly i don't have a DVD burner nor do i have an external drive. :(

But i was thinking that i could use Disk Utility for Format the iPod as MS-DOS (which in essences would make the iPod a harddrive...am i correct) Then i could put the music on the iPod and take it to his house. Then when i plug it in and get the music off of the iPod i could run the iPod updater for windows and "fix" the iPod so that it will actually play music.

Please correct me if i am wrong... as i would rather not do this to a new iPod and have it come out all farked up.

Thanks

The theory is good and you shouldn't have any problems doing that but I haven't ever tried it myself.

Well i tryed it just now on my computer and it seemed to work just fine. I ran disk utility and basically made a HD (formated as MS-DOS) out of the iPod then i moved the songs onto it and unpluged it i then waited about 30 seconds and pluged it back in. I could get into the iPod and get the songs off of it. I then ran the iPod updated and it restored it just fine.

Hopefully it works just the same later!! (crosses fingers)

Thanks
