Images Getting Cut Off While Uploading And Viewing

Could this be an internet connection issue? I have been trying to upload pictures to Twitter (changing my profile pic) and sending one to a friend on Facebook (uploading process in a private message), but when I do, the bottom half of the image is cut off & black, or just isn't showing up.

There are examples below. Thanks for your help in advance. This is the first time my Macbook has done this, BTW!

Cut off and black (or gray) -- upload did not complete successfully or image is corrupted.
